A stable release of the interface for simplifying network settings has been published — NetworkManager 1.54.0. Plugins for VPN support (Libreswan, OpenConnect, Openswan, SSTP, etc.) are being developed within their own development cycles.
Key innovations in NetworkManager 1.54:
- Added the ability to attach individual IPv4 packet forwarding settings to devices using the "ipv4.forwarding" option.
- Added a "prefix-delegation" setting that allows the "subnet-id" property to be used to select a subnet on a downstream network interface when using IPv6 prefix delegation.
- The nm-cloud-setup utility implements support for configuring network interfaces on baremetal servers in OCI (Oracle Cloud Infrastructure).
- When activating connections based on VPN WireGuard Implemented adding rules to the packet filter to prevent the kernel from dropping incoming packets due to rp_filter (Reverse Path Filter).
- The nmtui utility now allows you to configure the loopback interface.
- It is now possible to reassign most ovs-bridge and ovs-port properties on the fly without disconnecting the connection.
- Added the property "sriov.preserve-on-down", which controls the preservation of the set SR-IOV parameters (Single Root I/O Virtualization, allows distributing the resources of one physical device between several virtual machines) when the connection is deactivated. You can set the preservation of the settings or their reset to the default value.
- Added the "ovs-dpdk.lsc-interrupt" property to configure the Link State Change (LSC) detection mode for OVS DPDK network interfaces.
- The initrd-generator implements parsing of NBFT (NVMe Boot Firmware Table) boot tables to configure the network at an early stage of boot.
- Added systemd services for configuring networking at the initial RAM disk (initrd) level.
