Release of the system for mathematical calculations GNU Octave 8

The release of the system for performing mathematical calculations GNU Octave 8.1.0 (the first release of the 8.x branch), which provides an interpreted language, is largely compatible with Matlab. GNU Octave can be used to solve linear problems, non-linear and differential equations, calculations using complex numbers and matrices, data visualization, and mathematical experiments.

Among the changes in the new release:

  • The ability to use a dark theme has been added to the graphical interface. New high-contrast icons have been added to the toolbar.
  • Added a new widget with a terminal (disabled by default, activation requires launching with the β€œ-experimental-terminal-widget” parameter).
  • Added new fonts for Document Viewer.
  • The performance of the filter function has been increased fivefold, which has also resulted in performance improvements for the deconv, fftfilt, and arma_rnd functions.
  • Compatibility with the regular expression library PCRE2 is provided, which is enabled by default.
  • A large portion of changes aimed at improving compatibility with Matlab has been made, the capabilities of many existing functions have been expanded.
  • Added new functions clearAllMemoizedCaches, matlab.lang.MemoizedFunction, memoize, normalize, pagectranspose, pagetranspose, uifigure.
