The Hyperbola GNU/Linux-libre 0.3 distribution has been released. The distribution is notable for being included in a Foundation-supported free software list of completely free distributions. Hyperbola is based on a stabilized Arch Linux package base with a number of stability and security patches ported from Debian. Hyperbola builds are generated for the i686 and x86_64 architectures.
This distribution includes only free applications and comes with a Linux-Libre kernel stripped of non-free binary firmware elements. To block the installation of non-free packages, blacklisting and blocking at the dependency conflict level are used.
Hyperbola GNU/Linux-libre 0.3 changes include:
- Using Xenocara as the default graphics stack
- End of support for the X.Org server;
- Replacing OpenSSL with LibreSSL;
- End of support for Node.js;
- Rebuilding packages taking into account the updated linking rules in Hyperbola;
- Bringing packages to FHS (Filesystem Hierarchy Standard) compliance
