German developer Stefan Rottger released an ascii game for unix compatible terminals called ASCII DASH. This project is intended to make a remake of the old dos puzzle Boulder Dash. For output to the terminal, the ASCII GFX wrapper written by him over the ncurses library is used. There is also a dependency sdl to support the gamepad and use sounds in the game. But this dependency is optional.
Features:
- Unlike other similar games, when separate letters and numbers are used for characters and objects, this game uses sprites made up of ascii characters (ascii art).
- Animated ascii sprites (the main character stomps his foot, glitter of diamonds, blinking of the exit door from the level)
- Ability to convert custom levels written for the original into a format understandable by ASCII DASH.
The source codes are distributed under the MIT license.
