Midori 9 Web Browser Release

Took place release of lightweight web browser Midori 9, developed by members of the Xfce project based on the WebKit2 engine and the GTK3 library.
The browser core is written in the Vala language. Project code spreads licensed under LGPLv2.1. Binary assemblies prepared by for linux (snap) and Android. Formation assemblies discontinued for Windows and macOS for now.

Key innovations of Midori 9:

  • On the start page, the display of icons of sites specified using the protocol open graph;
  • Improved support for pop-up JavaScript dialogs;
  • Added the ability to save and restore pinned tabs when saving or restoring a session;
  • Returned the Trust button with information about TLS certificates;
  • An item for closing a tab has been added to the context menu;
  • Added an option to the address bar to open a URL from the clipboard;
  • Added support for sidebar handlers to the Web Extensions API;
  • Merged App and Page menus;
  • Improved input focus handling for reopened and background tabs;
  • On tabs that play sound, a volume control icon is shown.

  • High performance (works without problems when opening 1000 tabs);
  • Support for connecting external extensions written in JavaScript (WebExtension), C, Vala and Lua.
