Wine 10.8 and GE-Proton 10.1 Released

An experimental release of the open source implementation of the Win32 API, Wine 10.8, has been published. Since the release of 10.7, 18 bug reports have been closed and 231 changes have been made.

The most important changes:

  • The DbgHelp library continues working on a new backend for the PDB (Program database) format.
  • Improved performance by moving user settings to shared memory.
  • Improved support for TIFF images.
  • Closed bug reports related to the operation of the following applications: Adobe Lightroom Classic 10.4, Vegas Pro 14, cmd, foobar2000, Caret.
  • Closed bug reports related to the operation of the games: Defiance, Final Fantasy XI Online, Country Siblings.

Additionally, it is worth noting the release of the GE-Proton 10-1 project, within the framework of which enthusiasts are creating extended builds of the package for launching Windows applications Proton, independent of Valve, distinguished by a more recent version of Wine, the use of FFmpeg in FAudio and the inclusion of additional patches that solve problems in various gaming applications. Changes in Proton GE 10-1:

  • The transition to the Proton 10.0 branch, which is currently in beta testing, has been completed.
  • Ported changes from the latest wine 10, steamclient, vkd3d-proton, dxvk-nvapi and dxvk codebases.
  • Wine-Wayland is enabled for working in Wayland-based environments.
  • Updated patches for Dualsense game controllers, AMD FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution) support, and NVIDIA Reflex latency reduction.
