Release of Wine Launcher 1.5.3, a tool for launching Windows games

The release of the Wine Launcher 1.5.3 project is available, which develops a Sandbox environment for running Windows games. Among the main features are: isolation from the system, separate Wine and Prefix for each game, compression into SquashFS images to save space, modern launcher style, automatic fixing of changes in the Prefix directory and generation of patches from this, support for gamepads and Steam / GE / TKG Proton . The project code is distributed under the GPLv3 license.

Significant changes since last post:

  • Implemented forced termination of Wine before exiting the application. This fixes cases where the Wine process was left hanging like a zombie after the game ended.
  • Added tweak MESA_GL_VERSION_OVERRIDE, enabling which allows you to bypass some Mesa driver bugs that prevent OpenGL games from running.
  • The Diagnostics page now displays the version of OpenGL supported by the video adapter.
  • Added support for gamepads. A feature that allows you to play games that do not support a gamepad. Of the implementation features, there are several layouts for each gamepad and separate settings for each game.
  • Migrating from HTML5 Gamepads API to node-gamepad. This eliminated the need to press gamepad buttons to initialize inside WL.
