Blood remaster may be out very soon - but for now, check out the nostalgic screenshots

The Duke Nukem 3D shooter Blood was one of the best games of the nineties in this genre, but now it can only be played through DOSBox (the emulator is used in the Steam and GOG versions). Therefore, the announcement of the re-release made in December especially pleased the fans. Since then, almost no details about it have appeared, but recently, Nightdive Studios programmer Samuel Villarreal (Samuel Villarreal) let slip about the release date on Twitter. An improved version may appear as early as April - but this is not certain. The developers also shared new screenshots.

β€œComing out this April,” Villarreal wrote in a post, citing a Polygon article that shared the new screenshots. "Don't ask me about it again." Shortly after that, the developer deleted the tweet, but the Internet remembers everything - readers managed to take a screenshot. Later, in response to one of the users, the programmer wrote that he did not know if the Steam version would be withdrawn from sale after the release of the remaster (this, according to him, depends on Atari).

Perhaps the developer removed the message because the release dates have not yet been approved. Be that as it may, the information about the April release looks plausible. In December, the producer of the project Daniel Grayshon (Daniel Grayshon) noted that the new version needs minor revision. It is known that the remaster will be available only on PC.

Villarreal, also known as Kaiser, has been creating content for Doom since 1997. Among other things, he led the development of Doom 64: Absolution, a port of the Midway Games shooter on the Doomsday engine, and mastered levels for Unreal Tournament, Serious Sam, Quake, Doom 3 and FEAR He also created Doom64 EX and Powerslave EX - improved versions with support for modern operating systems. In recent years, the programmer has been working at Nightdive: he had a hand in the remasters of the Turok and Forsaken Remastered dilogy, and now he is involved in the work on Blood Remastered.

16 fresh screenshots were taken in the latest build of the game (version 1.6.10). Judging by them, the re-release is more of a retouched original version than a full-fledged remaster. However, fans will certainly appreciate the efforts of the developers, because in this form the shooter perfectly conveys the atmosphere of the same Blood.

The rights to Blood belong to the authors of the game, Washington-based Monolith Productions. However, creating a remaster is completely legal: the fact is that the license to publish (including re-release) the original shooter is owned by GT Interactive. She passed them on to Atari, which gave the green light to develop a re-release. Perhaps it was because of legal difficulties that the publishing house refused to release a full-fledged remake.

In addition to Blood Remastered, Nightdive is preparing a remake of the original System Shock (coming early next year), as well as a remake of Powerslave, another Build engine game, and real-time strategy Machines: Wired for War. As for Monolith, it is rumored to be working on a new game in the Middle-earth series. She does not plan to work on projects of other genres yet, but does not rule out that someday she will return to the FEAR series.
