Renault and Nissan team up with Waymo to develop robo-car transportation services

French automaker Renault SA, its Japanese partner Nissan Motor and Waymo (Alphabet Holding) have announced a decision to jointly explore partnership opportunities to develop and use self-driving cars for the transport of people and goods in France and Japan.

The initial agreement between Waymo, Renault and Nissan aims to "develop a framework for deploying mobile services at scale," explained Hadi Zablit, business development manager at the Renault-Nissan Alliance. According to him, testing of vehicles and deployment of services of the company will be engaged at later stages.

As part of the agreement, the two automakers will set up joint ventures in France and Japan to develop transport services using self-driving cars. Zablit said that further investment in Waymo is also being considered.
