Retro emulator thanks to AI learned to translate into Russian and voice games on the fly

Many fans of retro games would certainly like to check out projects like Hunter X Hunter or other old Japanese classics that have never been translated into other languages. Now, thanks to progress in the field of AI, such an opportunity has appeared.

For example, with the recent 1.7.8 update of the RetroArch emulator, the AI Service tool is included by default. It allows you to convert Japanese text to English, or even voice characters' text phrases.

This is a great option for various ancient Japanese creations that don't have their own fan translations. But that's not all: you can, on the contrary, translate an English game into Japanese or into a language that has not received official localization - for example, into Russian. Retroarch lets you do that too: “You can set the source and target languages. How well this works depends on the translation services used,” the developers say.

Full instructions on how to start the translation service can be found on the LibRetro page. This is not all the innovations of the latest version of RetroArch - in particular, the emulator received the core of the Switch version and many quality improvements for those who emulate Commodore 64 platforms and Amiga games. Full release notes can be found on the official website.
