Network sources report that Roskomnadzor specialists are developing new tools that will completely block the popular Telegram messenger in Russia. This RIA Novosti said the head of Roskomnadzor Alexander Zharov.
According to Mr. Zharov, at present, the situation with the blocking of the Telegram messenger can be viewed in retrospect. The court decision to block the application in Russia was made due to Telegram's refusal to provide the FSB with encryption keys. Currently, only one mechanism is widely used to block prohibited resources. We are talking about IP blocking, which is not effective enough.
Obviously, the methods used by Roskomnadzor do not completely block the application, since it uses proxy servers and other tools to bypass the bans. Mr. Zharov believes that IP-protocol countermeasures have a very unstable effect. He confirmed that work is underway to improve blocking tools, but at the same time noted the preparation of a strategic solution to the problem, which is completely unrelated to IP blocking.
Unfortunately, the head of Roskomnadzor did not provide details regarding the upcoming decision, but promised that Telegram would continue to freeze. It also remains unclear when the agency plans to start using new blocking tools and how effective they will be.
