For the first time in eight years, Roscosmos State Corporation will send a woman cosmonaut to the ISS. This was told on the air of "Evening Urgant" by the commander of the detachment Oleg Kononenko and organization on Twitter. The flight will take place in 2022.
The crew member was 35-year-old Anna Kikina. She got into the squad as a result of the first open competition for the selection of candidates in 2012. Kikina is a master of sports in polyathlon (all-around) and rafting. She has no space flight experience yet.
The last time Roscosmos sent a female cosmonaut to the ISS was in 2014. Then it was Elena Serova, who spent 167 days at the station. Now Kikina remains the only woman in the Russian squad of Roscosmos and will become the fifth Russian woman to go into space.
