Deputy Director of the Department of Navigation Space Systems of Roscosmos Valery Zaichko, as reported by the online publication RIA Novosti, revealed some details of the project to create the National Center for Remote Sensing of the Earth (ERS).
About plans to form a Russian remote sensing center
As Mr. Zaichko noted, the center will have a geographically distributed structure. The main site will appear at the Research Institute of Precision Instruments (NIITP) in Moscow. Two more sites will most likely be created in Kalyazin.
“We want to make it [the remote sensing center] similar to the National Center for Defense Management and National Crisis Management, so that this is the place, the headquarters, not only of Roscosmos, but also of the entire top leadership of the country, where you can see what’s going on with the country from space. And not only with the country, but also in the world as a whole,” said Valery Zaichko.
It should be noted that Earth remote sensing data is in demand in a variety of fields. With their help, for example, it is possible to analyze the socio-economic development of regions, track the dynamics of changes in environmental management, subsoil use, construction, ecology, etc.
