The Russian segment of the ISS received surveillance cameras because of the “hole” in the Soyuz

Head of the state corporation Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin on the YouTube channel “Soloviev Live” сообщил that the Russian segment of the International Space Station (ISS) was equipped with special video surveillance cameras after the incident that occurred with the Soyuz spacecraft in 2018.

We are talking about the Soyuz MS-09 manned spacecraft, which went to the ISS in June 2018. While being part of the orbital complex, a hole was discovered in the skin of this ship: the gap caused an air leak, which was recorded by the ISS onboard systems.

To avoid similar incidents in the future, Roscosmos decided to equip the Russian segment of the orbital complex with monitoring equipment. “The Russian segment of the ISS is today reliably protected by all the necessary monitoring and control systems,” said Mr. Rogozin.

In addition, the head of Roscosmos confirmed that the multifunctional laboratory module (MLM) “Science” will go to the ISS no earlier than the second quarter of next year. According to Dmitry Rogozin, the launch is planned for late spring or early summer 2021. The module will provide the ISS with oxygen, regenerate water from urine and control the orientation of the orbital station along the roll channel. In addition, “Science” will provide qualitatively new opportunities in terms of conducting all kinds of experiments.
