Oleg Orlov, director of the Institute of Biomedical Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IMBP RAS), spoke about the initiative, according to the RIA Novosti online publication.

The idea is to help astronauts with the help of modern virtual reality technologies relieve stress after a hard day's work, as well as after difficult space walks.

β€œOur psychologists rightly believe that this technology can be used to create a favorable psychological climate and relieve astronauts. In the very near future, based on the results of the current SIRIUS experiment, we will offer such a technology for use on the ISS,” said Mr. Orlov.

As we reported earlier, participants in the SIRIUS isolation program to simulate a flight to the moon will use spacesuits with virtual reality helmets to create the effect of presence. The experiment started in Moscow in March and will last four months.

Let us add that today, April 12, is Cosmonautics Day. 58 years ago, in 1961, for the first time in history, a man went into space: he was the Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin.
