It is possible that Russia will create a constellation of small satellites designed to explore the Arctic regions. Leonid Makridenko, head of the VNIIEM corporation, told about this, according to the RIA Novosti online publication.

We are talking about the launch of six devices. It will be possible to deploy such a grouping, according to Mr. Makridenko, within three to four years, that is, until the middle of the next decade.

It is assumed that the new satellite constellation will be able to solve various problems. In particular, the devices will monitor the state of the ocean surface, as well as ice and snow cover. The data obtained will allow to control the development of transport infrastructure.

β€œThanks to the new grouping, it will also be possible to provide information support for the search for hydrocarbon deposits on the shelf, monitor the degradation of permafrost, and monitor environmental pollution in real time,” RIA Novosti notes.

Among other functions of the satellite constellation is called assistance in the navigation of aircraft and ships. The devices will be able to monitor the earth's surface around the clock and in any weather.
