S. P. Korolev Rocket and Space Corporation Energia (RSC Energia) has started developing a special washing machine designed for use in space.
It is reported that the installation is being designed with an eye on future lunar and other interplanetary expeditions. Alas, any technical details of the project have not yet been disclosed. But it is obvious that the system will use water reuse technology.
The plans of Russian specialists to create a space washing machine were reported earlier. In particular, such information is contained in the documentation of the Research and Design Institute of Chemical Engineering (NIIKhimmash). One of the priority tasks in this case is the introduction of a system for regenerating water from urine.
In addition, RSC Energia plans to order the development of an advanced space vacuum cleaner. The device will be able to suck up dust, hair, threads, drops of liquid and food crumbs, sawdust, etc. At first, the new vacuum cleaner is planned to be used on the International Space Station (ISS). But in the future, such a device may be in demand during long-term space flights, as well as on inhabited bases on the Moon and Mars.
