Russia will accelerate the development and implementation of quantum technologies

The Russian Quantum Center (RCC) and NUST MISIS presented the final version of the roadmap for the development and implementation of quantum technologies in our country.

It is noted that the demand for quantum technologies will increase every year. We are talking about quantum computers, quantum communication systems and quantum sensors.

Russia will accelerate the development and implementation of quantum technologies

In the future, quantum computers will provide a huge increase in speed compared to existing supercomputers. First of all, it is database search, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and the creation of new materials.

In turn, quantum communication systems will be able to guarantee absolute protection against hacking. It will not be possible to imperceptibly intercept data transmitted through such channels due to the fundamental laws of nature.

Quantum sensors will lead to the emergence of completely new instruments and devices for high-precision measurement of various parameters. A high degree of control over the state of individual microscopic systems makes it possible to create quantum sensors with a sensitivity level that is orders of magnitude higher than that of traditional magnetometers, accelerometers, gyroscopes, and other sensors.

So, it is reported that the prepared roadmap contains key metrics and plans for the technological breakthrough of our country in quantum computing, quantum communications and quantum sensors.

Russia will accelerate the development and implementation of quantum technologies

β€œThe requirements, indicators and methodologies described in the roadmap will serve as a guide to action for research groups, institutions and industry until 2024. The implementation of these measures should lead to the emergence in the country of several dozen start-ups in quantum technologies, competing on equal terms with companies from the United States, the European Union and China,” the authors of the document say.

The implementation of the plans laid down in the roadmap can save significant material and time resources in dozens of different industries. Thus, new materials with superconductivity properties simulated on a quantum computer will reduce losses on power lines in Russia. The calculated energy consumption of quantum computers themselves will be more than 100 times less than that of traditional ones, which will save billions of rubles on electricity for data centers. Russia may have its own highly competitive production of ultra-sensitive medical sensors, lidars for unmanned vehicles, quantum cryptography and communication devices.
