US iPhone user base growth slows in quarter

Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) released a new study that showed a slowdown in iPhone user base growth in the United States in the second fiscal quarter of 2019.

US iPhone user base growth slows in quarter

As of March 30, the number of iPhones used by Americans reached 193 million units, while according to the results of the previous similar period, there were about 189 million active devices. Thus, analysts noted an increase in the number of used iPhones at the level of 2%, which is lower than previous figures.

In the second fiscal quarter of 2018, the iPhone user base was 173 million devices. Specialists note growth at the level of 12% year on year, which is slightly less than the figures that Apple has shown before.

A CIRP spokesperson says that the past few years have seen a slowdown in sales of new iPhones and an increase in the period of ownership of purchased devices. It is noted that the increase in the user base at the level of 12% is a good indicator, but investors are accustomed to more impressive results. According to analysts, investors expect to see a 5% quarterly growth in the user base, and on an annualized basis, this figure should reach 20%. The emerging trend has investors wondering if iPhone sales outside the US can offset declining domestic demand.

The CIRP study is based on estimates of the number of iPhones sold in the US. According to analysts, about 2019 million devices were sold in the second fiscal quarter of 39. Previously, Apple did not officially provide data on the number of active devices used by US customers. However, at the beginning of 2019, it was announced that about 1,4 billion Apple devices are used worldwide, with the share of the iPhone being 900 million units.
