Rostelecom and the Russian developer Red Soft signed a license agreement for the use of the operating system RED OS, according to which the Rostelecom group of companies will use the RED OS of the Server configuration in its internal systems. The transition to the new OS will begin next year and be completed by the end of 2023.
While not specified, which services will be transferred to work under the domestic OS, also Rostelecom does not comment on the sequence of transition to RED OS.
On customer's statement testing for compatibility of RED OS with the server infrastructure of Rostelecom was successfully carried out in October 2020. As a result, the final choice of OS for installation on corporate servers was made.
It should be noted that, according to the developers of RED OS, it is created with an eye to the Red Hat methodology, as a result of which this distribution kit can be considered a domestic replacement for RHEL / CentOS solutions. This becomes important in the current moment, when the fate of CentOS seems to be vague.
