Russian Railway Simulator 1.0.3 is a free railway transport simulator

Russian Railway Simulator (RR) is a free and open source railway simulator project dedicated to the rolling stock of 1520 mm gauge (the so-called “Russian gauge”, common in Russia and neighboring countries). RR written in language C ++ and is a cross-platform project, that is, it can work on different operating systems.

RR is positioned by the developers as fully compatible with the simulator's railroad add-ons format ZDSimulator (ZDS).

List of changes

  • High-precision timer running in a separate thread, providing real-time simulation. Fixed bugs related to train dynamics simulation synchronization.
  • Fixed-step 4th order Runge-Kutta solver (rk4) has been added. Compared to rkf5, the solver provides higher performance for calculating longitudinal dynamics in long trains. Trains of 180 rolling stock are available.
  • Changed the engine of procedural animations, adding the ability to link model details in the editor Autodesk 3D Max. You can set up animations of movement relative to the part's own axes.
  • Once again, the model of the brake linkage has been corrected.
  • An updated visual model of the VL60pk and its cockpit has been added.
  • Route "Rostov Gl. — Caucasian» changed to route "Rostov Gl. - Hot key". Fixed some skewed models in the route.
  • Added corrected models of some standard objects ZDS:

    • Bridge over the Don - Removed isolated vertices that added giant triangles across the bridge when rendering (screenshot);
    • Lighting Poles - Searchlights no longer hang in the sky (screenshot);
    • Object "Tanks" - fixed UV-scan (screenshot);
    • The invisible most_50x2.dmd became visible - the trouble was in the Russian letter x of the file name, why the developers did it ZDS unclear… (screenshot).

Developer release notes:

The changes concern mainly the internals of the game engine, but are extremely important for its further development. I would like to say special thanks to Sergey Avdonin (lord_vl80) for persistent and multi-factor testing of version 1.0.3 at all stages of its creation. This is truly a titanic work and a huge help to the project. So a tester appeared in our team, and not just, but an active PTMP.

With the release of the next version, there was a delay due to the lack of development of the engine architecture. But, thanks to the efforts of the community, some of the problems have been eliminated - our community, although small, is strong. Slowly, knowledgeable and smart guys are pulling up, which cannot but rejoice. Roman is working at full speed on a visual model of the VL60 cargo variant, Nikolai Avilkin is hard at work on the ChS2t electric locomotive, where a rheostatic brake with a real Czechoslovak SART has already come to life. Sasha Mishchenko fell ill, but this does not prevent him from doing an updated and adapted for RRS route Rostov - Salsk. The route is almost ready, but there is no rolling stock for it in the Sim yet - it is mostly not electrified. But we hope for the Night Wolf and his AC2, which we are looking forward to. So, guys - not all at once, but gradually.

The simulator is currently guaranteed to work on operating systems Windows 7 / 8 / 10 as well as kernel-based OS Linux (have questions: 1, 2).

The binary package is prepared in the form EXE Installer (640 MB) for platforms WINE и MS Windows. Installation requires 3,5 GB disk space.
