Canalys has published statistics on the global speaker market with an intelligent voice assistant for the first quarter of this year.

It is reported that in January-March, approximately 20,7 million smart speakers were sold globally. This is an impressive 131% increase compared to the first quarter of 2018, when sales were 9,0 million units.

The biggest player is Amazon with 4,6 million speakers shipped and a 22,1% share. For comparison: a year earlier, this company held 27,7% of the world market.

Google is in second place with 3,5 million quarterly shipments of smart speakers. The share is approximately 16,8%.

Further in the ranking are Chinese Baidu, Alibaba and Xiaomi. Quarterly shipments of "smart" columns of these suppliers amounted to 3,3 million, 3,2 million and 3,2 million units, respectively. The companies occupied 16,0%, 15,5% and 15,4% of the industry.

All other manufacturers combined together control only 14,2% of the global market.

It is noted that China, according to the results of the first quarter, became the largest sales region for smart speakers with 10,6 million devices sold and a share of 51%. The United States, previously in first place, fell back to second place with 5,0 million gadgets shipped and 24% of the industry.
