Self-isolation has generated a sharp increase in demand for tablets

International Data Corporation (IDC) recorded a significant increase in demand for tablet computers worldwide after several quarters of declining sales.

In the second quarter of this year, worldwide shipments of tablets reached 38,6 million units. This is 18,6% more than in the same period in 2019, when shipments were 32,6 million units.

Such a sharp increase is explained by the pandemic: citizens around the world, being in self-isolation, began to use the Internet more actively and consume multimedia content, which created a need for additional computing devices.

The market leader is Apple: this company controls almost a third of the industry - 32,2%. In second place is Samsung with a share of 18,1%, while Huawei took bronze with 12,4%. Next come Amazon and Lenovo with 9,3% and 7,3% respectively. All other suppliers together hold 20,7% of the global market.

Note that these statistics take into account the supply of tablets, as well as gadgets "two in one" with an attached keyboard. Convertible touchscreen laptops are not considered.
