The company announced Tuesday it has awarded a contract to operate five round trips of self-driving USPS mail trucks between the Postal Service distribution centers in Phoenix and Dallas. Each of the trips is over 2100 miles (3380 km) or about 45 hours of driving. The route passes through three states: Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.

According to the contract, a safety engineer will be on board the self-driving trucks, as well as a driver behind the wheel in case of unforeseen situations.
