Samsung usually equips its flagship devices in the Galaxy series with OLED screens of its own production. They are developed by the Samsung Display division. However, earlier that for a new series of flagships, the company may resort to using screens from the Chinese manufacturer BOE. But it looks like that won't happen.
ΠΠ°ΠΊ South Korean publication DDaily, BOE-supplied OLED panels have not passed Samsung's quality test. The source adds that the South Korean giant was interested in using these panels in the next series of Galaxy 21 or Galaxy 30 smartphones (whatever it is called).
The resource also reports that usually Samsung installs screens on smartphones only after they pass quality checks and mass production. Apparently, BOE failed the first check, but it seems that they still have time to correct this situation, the source indicates.
The information of the South Korean media on Twitter was confirmed by the notorious insider and industry analyst Ross Young. He wrote that in addition to the BOE screen quality test for new Galaxy smartphones, another Chinese manufacturer, China Star, failed. Thus, Samsung has not yet been able to find a suitable alternative to its OLED displays.
The Samsung Display division is indeed considered the best manufacturer of OLED screens at the moment. They are used not only in the smartphones of the South Korean giant, but also, for example, in devices from Apple and OnePlus. But BOE failed to offer Samsung a more interesting alternative to its own panels. Apparently, the Chinese manufacturer could not achieve the high quality bar that was set by the leader in this market.
In fairness, it should be noted that BOE itself is one of the largest suppliers of displays. Its screens are used, for example, in devices from Huawei, Oppo and many others. In addition, BOE is one of the leading suppliers of laptop displays and computer monitors.
