Samsung introduced a "stripped down" version of the processor from the smartphone Galaxy A50

More than a year after announcement mobile processor Exynos 7 Series 9610, which served as a hardware platform for the mid-range smartphone Galaxy A50, Samsung Electronics introduced its younger brother - Exynos 9609. The first device built on the basis of the new chipset was a smartphone Motorola One Vision, equipped with a display with a "cinematic" aspect ratio of 21:9 and a round cutout for the front camera.

Samsung introduced a "stripped down" version of the processor from the smartphone Galaxy A50

The main specifications of the Exynos 9609 are not much different from those of the Exynos 9610:

  • 10nm FinFET process technology;
  • eight Cortex-A73 and Cortex-A53 cores;
  • graphics accelerator Mali-G72 MP3 with support for displays with a resolution of up to 2560 × 1600 pixels;
  • LTE modem Cat. 12 (600 Mbps);
  • Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0;
  • UFS 2.1 and eMMC 5.1 flash memory controllers;
  • main camera up to 24 MP (or 16 + 16 MP);
  • front camera up to 24 MP (or 16 + 16 MP).

The key difference lies in the clock speed of the high-performance cluster of cores - in the younger single-chip system it is 100 MHz slower (2,2 GHz vs. 2,3 GHz).

In addition, Exynos 9609 supports two types of RAM chips - LPDDR4 and LPDDR4x, while 9610 only works with the latter type of RAM. There is also no support for encoding and decoding 4K video at 120 fps - only a maximum of 60 fps.

It is expected that the first smartphones of the Samsung brand, which will use the Exynos 9609 as a hardware platform, will be models with the SM-A507F and SM-A707F indices, which are still unknown. Perhaps we are talking about "lightweight" versions of the Galaxy A50 and A70, which may be called A50e and A70e.
