Samsung has entered into agreements to supply Tizen on third-party TVs

Samsung Electronics has announced a number of partnership agreements related to the licensing of the Tizen platform to other manufacturers of smart TVs. The agreements are with Attmaca, HKC and Tempo, which will launch their Tizen-based TVs this year under the Bauhn, Linsar, Sunny and Vispera brands for sale in Australia, Italy, New Zealand, Spain, Turkey and the UK.

Licensing allows not only to use Tizen open source texts, but also to install a ready-made solution on your devices, including additional applications, content search tools and an original user interface. Samsung also expressed its willingness to work together to optimize Tizen for third-party hardware. Manufacturers that enter into the agreement will have access to content delivery services and technologies used in Samsung Smart TVs, such as the Samsung TV Plus streaming platform, TV program navigation system (Universal Guide), and Bixby voice assistant.

The Tizen code is licensed under GPLv2, Apache 2.0, and BSD, and is developed under the auspices of the Linux Foundation, primarily by Samsung. The platform continues the development of the MeeGo and LiMO projects and is notable for providing the ability to use the Web API and web technologies (HTML5/JavaScript/CSS) to create mobile applications. The graphical environment is built on the basis of the Wayland protocol and the developments of the Enlightenment project, Systemd is used to manage services.
