The UK's best-selling smartphone is the iPhone XR, but Samsung is leading the way in Europe

Recent research from Kantar has two pieces of good news for Apple: the iPhone XR was the best-selling smartphone in the UK in the first quarter of this year, and iOS has significantly increased its share of the US operating system market.

The UK's best-selling smartphone is the iPhone XR, but Samsung is leading the way in Europe

As the researchers noted, the iPhone XR outsold the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max in total in Europe, claiming to be the best-selling model in the UK.

The majority of iPhone XR buyers previously owned one of the iPhones in the lineup prior to the iPhone X. 16% of XS and XS Max buyers previously owned an iPhone X, while less than 1% of iPhone XR buyers did.

Kantar also noted that Samsung's share in major European markets remained unchanged in the latest quarter, helped by some increased interest in its devices in Italy and Spain. The launch of the flagship Galaxy S10 series has also helped the manufacturer strengthen its position as a leading brand in Europe, and we can expect this trend to continue in the next quarter.
