Sberbank offers to open access to urban video surveillance data to AI developers

The idea is that AI system developers will be able to generate and use data arrays without violating privacy. This initiative is set out in the draft report of Sberbank on the progress of work within the framework of the formation of a roadmap in the field of development of the “end-to-end” technology “Neurotechnologies and artificial intelligence”. The presented project provides for the simplification of the procedure for obtaining access to urban streaming data, including video surveillance, as well as the possibility of generating and using data arrays for developers in the field of AI.

The Ministry of Digital Development, Telecommunications and Mass Media believes that AI developers are most hampered by the lack of data and limited access to it. It was noted that the bulk of the data is collected by the State. Discussions are currently underway on what data, to whom and under what conditions to provide, but a decision is still far away.

It is also known that a mechanism for providing simplified access to streaming data is planned to be developed and used by mid-2021. It is assumed that the project will be implemented by specialists from the Ministry of Digital Development. Among other things, the report says that the development of a regime for providing simplified access to city streaming data will eliminate barriers that exist due to the use of outdated industry standards and a number of other reasons. AI developers are also reportedly hampered by companies' low AI readiness, outdated business models, skills gaps among employees and leaders, and data fragmentation.
