As part of the co-funding model proposed last year, fundraising began to support the OpenNET News Feed in 2019. As in the past year, the task is to raise funds to pay for the work of one person in full-time mode. Possible forms of transfer can be viewed on the project's financial support page.
Brief report on the work done during the year:
- The design was revised, the site header was completely redone, wishes for the forum pages were taken into account, a lot was changed in the details, the main and mini-news feeds for mobile devices were merged;
- Added a moderation log indicating the reasons for deletion;
- The “/~name” member pages have been redesigned, response tracking has been added, the system for tracking new messages has been redesigned, discussion and member tracking has been integrated;
- The profile of the current participant has been added to the header on all pages with indicators of unread messages and replies in monitored conversations;
- Added a list of unaccepted news, indicating the reasons for the rejection;
- Implemented separation of different anonymous names in one discussion thread;
- Added system for local caching of avatars without direct requests from gravatar.com from pages;
- A ribbon of project anniversaries appeared (in the right column on the news pages, the block "Memorable dates");
- During the year, 1636 news were published, on which 125895 comments were left by visitors.
Plans for discussion:
- Alteration of the form for adding news by visitors. The main tasks are adding the ability to preview the result, saving intermediate results (accidental closing of the tab should not lead to the loss of the written but not yet sent text) and the ability to suggest corrections after sending;
- Quick Reply Form - Expand the reply form after clicking the "[reply]" link right inside the thread below the current post without opening a separate page. A prototype has already been prepared, but there are doubts about the feasibility and convenience of such a change;
- Continued translation of markup from tables to divs;
- Adding to the page "/~" a list of recent messages for which the participant put "+";
- Sterile mode for hiding anonyms when you select the appropriate checkbox in the profile and a mode for prohibiting answers from anonyms (the feasibility of implementation is questionable);
- HSTS on vhost with HTTPS. The idea is that the HTTPS-only login is made when the site is first opened via https://, but if the site is opened via http://, HSTS is not applied. The implementation is questionable, since there are a lot of subtle points (there may be problems with logging in from old mobile platforms or when HTTPS is blocked by the provider, for example, due to equipment failures for filtering traffic) against the background of a general unwillingness to impose anything;
- Broadcast news in Golos/Steem.
Supplement: For the first day, 148 thousand rubles were received. If we extrapolate the dynamics compared to last year, then it will be collected 3 times less than last time 🙁
