ScyllaDB switches to non-free license

The developers of the NoSQL database ScyllaDB have decided to stop publishing code under AGPL and switch to a proprietary open source license (BSL) with a new release in 2025.

Let me remind you that ScyllaDB is a clone of the Cassandra database, rewritten in C++ (the original is in Java) and has much higher performance. At the moment, ScyllaDB has two licensing options: a completely free version under AGPL and a closed version under a proprietary license, which has advanced features for corporate users. Starting with version 2025.1, expected in February next year, all development will be focused on ScyllaDB Enterprise, which will be available for free use by the community.

Reasons given for this decision include a reluctance to compete with their own product and a desire to focus on providing a quality product.
