Sega has announced a smaller Game Gear console with a set of classic games

In honor of its 60th anniversary, Sega announced re-release of its handheld game console Game Gear. Unlike the original device of 1990, the novelty has a more compact body size and fits in your pocket. Also, cartridges cannot be inserted into it - only pre-installed games can be launched.

Sega has announced a smaller Game Gear console with a set of classic games

The set of platformers and RPGs preinstalled in the Sega Game Gear will depend on the color of the case. Four games will be preinstalled in each version:

  • Black: Sonic the Hedgehog, Puyo Puyo, Out Run and Royal Stone;
  • Blue: Sonic Chaos, Gunstar Heroes, Sylvan Tale and Baku Baku Animal;
  • Yellow: Shining Force Gaiden, Shining Force: The Sword of Hajya, Shining Force Gaiden: Final Conflict and Nazo Puyo Arle no Roux;
  • Red: Revelations: The Demon Slayer, Megami Tensei Gaiden: Last Bible Special, The GG Shinobi and Columns.

The width of the portable set-top box is 80 millimeters. The display diagonal is 1,15 inches with a resolution of 240 Γ— 180 pixels. Those who find this screen size small will be able to order all four models and receive an accessory called "Big Window Micro" as a gift. In fact, this is a magnifying glass that is put on the console and shows the image in a large format.

Also, the device is equipped with a standard joystick-d-pad, two buttons, a small speaker and a headphone jack. Requires two AAA batteries to operate.

The new version of Game Gear will go on sale on October 6, but only in Japan. The cost of the device will be about 50 dollars.

The Sega Game Gear was first introduced in 1990 and was positioned as a competitor Game Boy by Nintendo. In total, 233 games were released for the console in the US and 196 games in Europe and Japan. Due to low demand, sales of the device were discontinued in 1997.
