AMD's Ryzen 9 3950X September announcement wasn't derailed by capacity shortages

AMD last Friday was forced to state, which will not be able to introduce the sixteen-core Ryzen 9 3950X processor in September, as previously planned, and will only offer it to customers in November of this year. A couple of months of pause were required to accumulate a sufficient number of commercial copies of the new flagship in the Socket AM4 version. Given that the Ryzen 9 3900X remains in short supply, this course of events did not cause much surprise, but network sources began to build alternative guesses about the true reasons for the delay in the announcement of the Ryzen 9 3950X.

AMD's Ryzen 9 3950X September announcement wasn't derailed by capacity shortages

The uniqueness of the Ryzen 9 processors, according to AMD representatives, lies not only in the use of two 7nm crystals with computing cores, but also in the combination of high frequencies with a large number of cores. Resource Seeking Alpha citing DigiTimes, reports that the reason for the delay in the announcement of the Ryzen 9 3950X was not the lack of 7nm crystals as such, but the lack of a sufficient number of specimens capable of operating at the declared frequencies. Recall that this model has an operating frequency range starting at 3,5 GHz and ending at 4,7 GHz in single-core mode. The TDP level should not exceed 105 watts. Most likely, it is possible to achieve high frequencies from Matisse processors in most cases, but AMD is simply not satisfied with the “average for the sample” level of heat dissipation.

By the new announcement date, which has not yet been specified, AMD should accumulate a sufficient number of "select copies" that will meet the requirements. Most likely, even fewer such processors will be received than in the case of the Ryzen 9 3900X, and therefore one cannot count on the wide availability of the older model. Until now, in many regions, the Ryzen 9 3900X appears in stores for a matter of minutes, and immediately disperses according to preliminary applications.
