SAS, in partnership with PLUS magazine, published the results of a study that examined the attitude of Russians towards various contactless payment services, such as Apple Pay, Samsung Pay and Google Pay.
It turned out that bank cards with contactless and contact interfaces have become the most popular payment instrument in our country: 42% of respondents named them as their main means of payment.
Among alternative contactless services, Apple Pay turned out to be the most popular: 21% of respondents most often make payments using it. Google Pay and Samsung Pay systems are preferred by 6% and 4% of respondents, respectively.
Despite the fact that plastic bank cards still remain the main contactless payment instrument, mobile services are also used quite often. Thus, 46% of respondents resort to them daily. About 13% of respondents pay through such services several times a week, 4% - several times a month. At the same time, almost a third of respondents - 31% - are not familiar with such systems in practice.
The main reason why mobile contactless payment services are gaining popularity, 73% of respondents named the lack of need to carry a card with them - to make a payment, you just need to have a smartphone with you.
At the same time, the study showed that 51% of respondents encountered difficulties when using mobile payment services.
“The survey showed that mobile contactless services are used quite actively in Russia, and it is obvious that they will increasingly become the target of fraudulent attacks. Such fraud schemes are more sophisticated and more difficult to detect,” the study says.
