In an interview with Kotaku, Aonuma said that the team realized they could add more elements to the same world after releasing The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild expansion. But then the understanding came that there were too many of them and it simply couldn’t fit everything into the DLC. So a sequel was born. β€œOriginally, we were only thinking about ideas for DLC,” said Eiji Aonuma. β€œBut we had a lot of ideas, and we realized: β€³there are too many, let's just make a new game and start from scratchβ€³.

Developers of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel are reportedly inspired by games like Red Dead Redemption 2. Therefore, it is not surprising that they have so many ideas. Fans already have some thoughts about the game. For example, that we can take the role of Zelda or the project will be cooperative. Nintendo doesn't really like to share details long before the release, so we can only wait.

The Legends of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 (tentative title) will be released on the Nintendo Switch. Release date not announced.
