In addition to two missions, Shared Horizons will add an Ariane-5 rocket, an ESA logo suit, new parts and experiments to the Kerbal Space Program space simulator.

β€œWe are thrilled to be able to join forces with the European Space Agency to bring real spacecraft and missions to the Kerbal Space Program for the first time,” said Michael Cook, Executive Producer, Private Division. β€œWe are honored to partner with such a renowned organization and look forward to receiving user feedback on these historic missions as the Shared Horizons update premieres.”

The first mission, BepiColombo, will recreate a joint project between the European Space Agency and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency to explore Mercury. In the Kerbal Space Program, players will have to fly to the orbit of Moho (this is the analogue planet of Mercury in the Kerbal universe), land and conduct experiments on the surface. The second mission, "Rosetta", is dedicated to landing on the surface of a comet near the orbit of Jupiter.

β€œHere at the European Space Agency, many scientists and engineers are familiar with the Kerbal Space Program game firsthand,” said Gunther Hasinger, ESA's scientific director. β€œRosetta and BepiColombo are extremely complex missions, and each of them presented us with unique challenges. Their implementation has been an incredible success for ESA and the entire international space community. That's why I'm so excited that they will now be available not only on Earth, but also on Kerbin."

The Shared Horizons update will be available for free on PC on July 1, 2020. It will be released later on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
