Oxygen Not Included combines elements of management and survival simulation. The player's task is to take care of the colonists who are trying to build a settlement on the asteroid: help them extract resources, develop the base, farm, craft equipment and learn new technologies. At the same time, it is necessary to monitor various indicators, including hunger, stress, temperature and oxygen. The latter is of particular importance: almost all zones in the game are deprived of it, and their exploration requires careful preparation. Another unusual feature is the simulation of gas diffusion: whenever the user opens a new location, the atmosphere changes, and the oxygen content in already accessible areas may decrease.
Oxygen Not Included was announced at E3 2016 and was released to Steam Early Access on February 15, 2017. According to lead designer Johann Seidenz, the game is inspired by Dwarf Fortress, Prison Architect and The Sims. Despite the fact that it is still in the "beta" stage, gamers rate it incredibly highly. Based on 16,7 thousand user reviews on Steam, her reviews are characterized as "very positive".
