Amazon uses a warehouse worker performance tracking system that can automatically fire employees who do not meet the general requirements. Company representatives confirmed that hundreds of employees were laid off during the year due to poor performance.

More than 300 workers were laid off from Amazon's Baltimore facility due to poor performance between August 2017 and September 2018, according to online sources. Representatives of the company confirmed this information, stressing that in general the number of layoffs has decreased in recent years.

Amazon's system captures the "idle time" metric, which makes it clear how many breaks each employee takes. Earlier it was reported that many employees due to such pressure deliberately do not take breaks from work, for fear of being fired. It is known that the mentioned system can, if necessary, issue warnings to employees and even dismiss them without involving a supervisor in this. The company said that the supervisor can override the decisions of the tracking system. In addition, additional training is provided for employees who do not cope with their official duties.

According to some reports, productivity tools, such as the employee activity tracking system, are widespread in many Amazon enterprises. Since the company's business continues to show strong growth, it is unlikely that management will decide to stop using them.
