Next up: Intel may sell its Wi-Fi business

The core business brings Intel no more than $450 million a year, and intentions to sell it first became known at the end of November. The corresponding components are used in household wireless routers, and Intel's competitors in this area can be considered Broadcom and Qualcomm. In the fourth quarter, Intel's IOTG division generated $920 million in revenue, up 13% year-over-year. This amount also includes other revenues that are not related to the sale of components for household network devices.

Now the agency Bloomberg reports that a potential buyer of Intel's business could be the Californian company MaxLinear, which also develops solutions for network equipment and broadband access. MaxLinear's capitalization does not exceed $1,3 billion, and there is no data yet on the possible value of Intel's core assets, as well as methods of financing the transaction. Its possible participants declined to comment on this topic.
