Slightly Mad Studios will have to change the name of their super-powerful Mad Box console

Studio Slightly Mad Studios, which gained fame after the development of video games Need for Speed: Shift and Project CARS, earlier this year introduced a high-performance gaming console called Mad Box. The device, due to go on sale in 2022, has already been redesigned and now appears to have lost its name. The thing is that the studio had to withdraw the Mad Box trademark due to a complaint from the French company Madbox, which considered that the obvious similarity of the names could mislead users.

Slightly Mad Studios will have to change the name of their super-powerful Mad Box console

The developers submitted an application for trademark registration "Mad Box" to the European Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) on January 3, 2019. French mobile and browser game company Madbox filed a protest on March 25, saying "there is a potential for public confusion". It is not known if the studio was under obligation to change its name, but Slightly Mad Studios chose to do so by withdrawing its trademark application.

Earlier, the CEO of Slightly Mad Studios, Ian Bell, said that the device created by the studio will support 4K resolution, as well as virtual reality at a frequency of 60 frames per second. It becomes obvious that a device called Mad Box will not be able to reach the store shelves. However, the developers have a lot of time to come up with a new name, since the launch of mass production of the console should take place in 2-3 years.
