Rumors: AMD announces advanced Threadripper PRO in a week

In the second generation of Ryzen Threadripper, AMD has already tried to separate models for the desktop market and workstations, but then the division was based mainly on the number of cores. According to online sources, Ryzen Threadripper PRO processors for workstations, belonging to the third generation of the platform, may debut this month.

Hints of the proximity of the announcement of new models of the Ryzen Threadripper family come from two sources at once. First, on the forum chiphell an image of the flagship model of the Ryzen Threadripper PRO 3995WX processor flashed, although later the general access to the corresponding discussion thread was closed. Secondly, the website announced the timing of the debut of such processors. VideoCardz - according to this resource, it is scheduled for July 14.

Both sources can't say goodbye to the obsession with the existence of a special AMD WRX80 chipset, as well as the appearance of Ryzen Threadripper processors with support for eight-channel memory. Similar rumors back in January tried to refute the site AnandTech, and if the arguments he published turned out to be correct, then in reality the platform for the new WX series processors will be upgraded motherboards based on the already existing AMD TRX40 chipset.

In the ASRock Rack product range, a similar solution already exists under the name TRX40D8-2N2T, it offers support for memory modules with ECC error correction, albeit in the old four-channel configuration. The BMC and ASPEED AST2500 graphics indicate advanced remote administration features that most Socket sTRX4 motherboards lack. Most likely, the upper limit on the amount of supported RAM after the release of the PRO series processors can rise from the current mark of 256 GB only if registered memory modules are supported.

It is possible that, following the example of the usual Ryzen PRO, the processors of the Threadripper family of the new series will support data encryption in memory, as well as acquire advanced security and remote administration features. The range of new products may consist of three models: Ryzen Threadripper PRO 3995WX, Ryzen Threadripper PRO 3975WX and Ryzen Threadripper PRO 3965WX. Their likely cost has not yet been discussed.
