It has become known that US Navy personnel have been banned from using the popular TikTok application on government-issued mobile devices. The reason for this was the fears of the American military, who believe that the application of the popular social network poses a “cybersecurity threat.”
The corresponding order, which was issued by the Navy, states that if users of government mobile devices refuse to delete TikTok, they will be blocked from accessing the US Navy Corps intranet. The Navy order does not describe in detail what exactly is dangerous about the popular app. However, the Pentagon emphasized that the new ban is part of a larger program aimed at “eliminating existing and emerging threats.” TikTok representatives have not yet commented on the ban imposed by the US military.
A senior U.S. Navy official said that typically, military personnel using government-issued smart devices are allowed to use popular commercial applications, including social media software. Despite this, employees are periodically prohibited from using certain software solutions that pose a security risk. It does not say which applications were prohibited from being used in the past.
The Chinese social network TikTok is extremely popular among teenagers not only in the United States, but throughout the world. However, it has recently come under scrutiny from US regulators and legislators.
