United Parcel Service (UPS), the world's largest express package delivery firm, has announced the creation of a dedicated unmanned aerial vehicle delivery subsidiary, UPS Flight Forward.
UPS also said it has applied to the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for the certifications it needs to expand its business. UPS Flight Forward's business requires FAA approval to use drones to deliver packages in communities, at night, and out of sight of the operator.
UPS said Flight Forward could be certified by the FAA for several drones and pilots as early as this year, potentially becoming the first company in the US to receive such approvals.
