As part of last week's Google I/O conference, the American Internet giant introduced a new beta version of the Android Q operating system, the final release of which will take place in the fall simultaneously with the announcement of Pixel 4 smartphones. We will detail the key innovations in the updated software platform for mobile devices in a separate article, but, as it turned out, the developers of the tenth generation of Android kept silent about some important points.
While studying the Android Q Beta 3 source code, the XDA Developers resource team stumbled upon a reference to an application called Safety Hub (com.google.android.apps.safetyhub package). The text of one of the lines of the "source code" indicates that among the functions of the service will be the detection of a traffic accident. The same purpose is indirectly evidenced by the icons included in the package with the image of colliding cars.
It also follows from the code that for the Safety Hub to work, the user will need to give the application certain permissions. You may need them to access the gadget's sensors, with the help of which the program will determine that the car has been in an accident. In addition, access can be requested to the phone book to call emergency services or call an emergency to a predetermined number. At the same time, the function will be available, apparently, only on Pixel smartphones. Until the end, the algorithm of how the Safety Hub works as a car crash detector is unclear, but we hope that Google will soon shed light on the new Android feature.
