Smartphones with a 100-megapixel camera may be released before the end of the year

A few days ago it became known that Qualcomm made changes to the technical specifications of a number of Snapdragon mobile processors, indicating support for cameras with a resolution of up to 192 million pixels. Now representatives of the company have commented on this issue.

Recall that support for 192-megapixel cameras is now announced for five chips. These are Snapdragon 670, Snapdragon 675, Snapdragon 710, Snapdragon 845 and Snapdragon 855 products.

Qualcomm says that these processors have always supported matrices with a resolution of up to 192 million pixels, but earlier they indicated lower figures for them. This is due to the fact that the technical specifications indicated the maximum resolution for which shooting modes are available at a speed of 30 or 60 frames per second.

The changes in the specifications of the chips are due to the fact that smartphones with a Snapdragon 675 processor and a 48-megapixel camera began to appear on the market. At the same time, the possibility of working with sensors of such high resolution was not indicated earlier in the characteristics of this chip.

Qualcomm also added that some smartphone vendors are already designing devices with 64 million-pixel cameras, as well as 100 million pixels or more. Such devices may debut before the end of this year. However, the need for such a number of megapixels in smartphones remains in question.
