The Smithsonian has released 2.8 million images into the public domain.

Smithsonian Institution (former National Museum of the United States) handed for royalty-free use a collection of 2.8 million images and 3D models. The images are published in the public domain, allowing distribution and use in any form by anyone without restrictions. To access the collection launched a special online service ΠΈ API.

The images include photographs of exhibits and objects on display at the Institute's 19 museums, 9 research centers, 21 libraries, archives and the National Zoo. In the future, it is planned to continuously expand the collection and publish new images as they are digitized. 155 million exhibits available. For example, during 2020, they expect to publish approximately 200 additional images.
