The specialists note that in the first quarter the price of NAND flash memory decreased faster than at the end of last year. This is due to the fact that Samsung, which is one of the largest manufacturers in this area, reduced prices, trying to quickly get rid of accumulated stocks. Because of this, other suppliers were forced to gradually reduce the prices of their products. Analysts say Samsung will continue its price cuts in the second quarter, but the South Korean tech giant will do so more moderately. Other producers will have to abandon price cuts, as such a policy could lead to serious losses in the long run.
Starting from the third quarter of last year, unsold products accumulated in the warehouses of NAND flash memory manufacturers. First of all, this is associated with a drop in interest in SSD drives for data centers. It is noted that the decreasing cost of NAND chips stimulates the introduction of solid state drives in personal computers, laptops, smartphones and other user devices. Experts believe that in the third quarter of 2019, the level of demand for NAND flash memory will increase, which will eventually lead to price stabilization.
