Sony has placed The Last of Us: Part II in the "Coming Soon" section, hinting at a 2019 release

More than two years have passed since the announcement of The Last of Us: Part II, but information about the release date is still kept secret. Last year, the composer of the sequel, Gustavo Santaolalla, who also composed the music for the original game, hinted at a premiere in 2019, and a few weeks ago, the Peruvian retail chain LawGamers indicated that it would take place in October. Recently, Sony indirectly confirmed the release by placing the exclusive on the "Coming Soon" section of the PlayStation website.

In the list of upcoming games The Last of Us: Part II was noticed by the Resetera forum user, after which the information spread through the news feeds. In this section, the project appeared in the UK, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Russia and other countries. It is curious that the game was not included in the corresponding list in the PlayStation Store.

Sony has placed The Last of Us: Part II in the "Coming Soon" section, hinting at a 2019 release

Most of the games from the Coming Soon section of the PlayStation Store will be released before the autumn: Warhammer: Chaosbane (June 4), Judgment (June 21), Wolfenstein: Youngblood (July 26), Control (August 27) and others. Some β€” such as Observation and Monster Jam Steel Titans β€” have a conditional date of December 31, although the exact date of their release is already known (they will appear in May and June, respectively).

Thus, if the new The Last of Us is not on the list by mistake, its premiere is likely to be expected in the third quarter of the year. In any case, the full transfer of the sequel to the ninth generation PlayStation, which gamers have been talking about due to the lack of a release date, is now unlikely. The first game was released on June 14, 2013.

In addition, a brief description of the action appeared on the PlayStation website (including its Russian version).

The Last of Us: Part II has been in development for about five years. Players will control an older Ellie who finds herself embroiled in a conflict involving a religious cult, but Joel will also appear in the sequel. Neil Druckmann, co-director of development and lead writer of the original, and Halley Gross, writer of the television series Westworld, are working on the story, the central theme of which is called hatred. In addition to Druckman, project leads include the designer of the first part, Anthony Newman (Anthony Newman), who participated in the creation of the hand-to-hand combat system, and the lead game designer of Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, Kurt Margenau, who worked only on the prologue of The Last of Us .

It is possible that the release date of The Last of Us: Part II will be announced in the coming months. Sony refused to participate in E3 2019, but may announce this information in one of the releases of the new State of Play show.

Meanwhile, developers from Naughty Dog accidentally revealed some details of the combat system. In the March 8 commemoration video, UI designer Maria Capel sits at a monitor showing the new game's interface (0:37 mark). Among them, attentive Reddit users considered the Upgrade inscription and pistol icons - this indicates that the weapon upgrade system will return in the second part. However, it is not clear whether this is the main game or multiplayer, support for which has already been announced.
