There have been a lot of rumors around the specifications of the PlayStation 5 lately. Today they came to an end, because Sony itself spoke about its next generation console.

Portal Wired talked with the lead architect of the PlayStation 4 Cerny Mark (Mark Cerny) - he returned to this role for the new console. According to him, the PlayStation 5 processor is based on the third generation Ryzen from AMD and contains eight cores of the new Zen 2 (7nm) microarchitecture. In the meantime, the GPU will support ray tracing technology and 8K resolution in games for the first time on consoles – it is based on AMD Navi. The architecture will be similar to the PlayStation 4, so backwards compatibility is in the plans of Sony. Cerny also hinted that some of the upcoming games will be released immediately in versions for the current and next generations.

In the details of the PlayStation VR, Mark did not go into too much. He only said that virtual reality is very important for Sony and the current headset will be compatible with the new console.

The lead architect heard from the developers about what they wanted from the new console at the end of 2015. The most common answer: faster downloads. When moving quickly to Marvel's Spider-Man Loading time on PlayStation 4 Pro is approximately 15 seconds. With the new console, as Cerny stated, the same time was reduced to 0,8 s. A very fast SSD allows this to be achieved.

In addition, the PlayStation 5 will continue to support discs.

Cerny claims that the PlayStation 5 (unless, of course, it is called something else) will not be released in 2019. 2020 is a more likely launch date. The cost of the console has not yet been disclosed.
