Sony is considering streaming PS4 games to Xbox One and Nintendo Switch

Sony Interactive Entertainment is conducting a survey asking users for feedback on Remote Play, the ability to stream from a console to another device. In particular, she asks if gamers want to play like this on Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.

Reddit user Yourredditherfirst posted screenshots of a recent survey sent out by the company that asked about community interest in using this feature on devices such as the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Apple TV, and Android TV.

Other questions included whether users would be interested in using remote play from a PlayStation 4 not connected to the internet; hiding unused game controls to provide more free space on the screen; a smaller version of the DualShock for handheld gaming; exclusive cards/accessories for Remote Play; customizable button layouts, connecting other controllers (for example, Xbox One) and mouse / keyboard; compatibility with PlayStation and PlayStation 2 games; and parental controls to allow multiple users to remote play at the same time.

Sony Interactive Entertainment has already tried on the PlayStation 3 to give users the ability to stream from the console to the PlayStation Portable and then to the PlayStation Vita. But the feature was not particularly popular, as game developers would have to devote additional system resources to it - many simply decided to completely abandon it.

With the PlayStation 4, the company took this into account and engineered the feature into the hardware. The console handled Remote Play without much effort, and as a result, almost the entire library is compatible with remote play on the PlayStation Vita. The implementation of the function is based on the technology of the former Gaikai, which Sony bought in 2012 and now uses the PlayStation Now service.

Over time, more and more devices have become compatible with Remote Play on PlayStation 4, including PlayStation TV, iOS and Android devices (but at first the function was only available on Sony Xperia smartphones and tablets), PC and Mac.

Now, with a new console on the horizon (PlayStation 5 coming out by the end of the year), Sony is still looking to further expand the Remote Play compatibility list on the PlayStation 4.
